Graduate Student Travel Grant

The Center for Writing is offers the LRS Minor
Graduate Student Travel Grant to fund travel expenses incurred by
students currently enrolled in the Graduate Minor in Literacy and Rhetorical
Studies who have presented or will present at academic conferences. Preference
will be given to presentations and conferences related to literacy, writing
pedagogy, composition theory and practice, and interdisciplinary topics related
to the Minor.

Eligibility: Applicants must be accepted in the LRS Minor, and be
making timely progress toward completing their Minor requirements. Eligible
travel expenses must be for conferences that take place between July 1, 2008
and June 30, 2009. Students who have received this award in the past are not
eligible for it again.
Application Procedure: Please submit the following:
- Application form (.pdf) (.doc)
- Short proposal (1–2 pages, maximum) in which you provide the
title and a description of your paper, explain how the paper
and conference relate to your work in the LRS Minor, and describe
how attending the conference will contribute toward your career
goals.
- CV
- Copy of either your letter of acceptance by the conference
committee or the page listing your presentation in the conference
program.
Amount: Up to $300 allowable travel expenses
(conference registration, airfare, hotel, transportation, and meals).

Dissertation/Master’s Project Summer Fellowship

The Center for Writing offers the LRS Minor Dissertation/Master’s Project Summer Fellowship to support graduate students doing research and writing related to their work in the LRS Minor.
Summer Fellowship Application

Eligibility: Applicants must be accepted in the LRS Minor, and be making timely progress toward completing their Minor requirements. For Ph.D. students, the fellowship supports writing preliminary papers or dissertations. For Master’s students, the fellowship supports preparing a thesis or MFA final portfolio. Students who have received this award in the past are not eligible for it again. Recipients will be asked to provide evidence of the success of the project at the end of the summer; in most cases, this will be the proposed thesis, dissertation chapter, or prelim paper.
Amount: A stipend of $1500 for Summer 2009
Application Procedure: Please submit two copies of the following:
- Application form (.pdf) (.doc)
- A proposal narrative of no more than two pages in which you describe your research project in general and explain which part of it you expect to complete during the summer. Please indicate how your project is related to the your work in the LRS Minor.
- CV
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty, one of which should be from your advisor. Both letters should address the general quality of your academic work, the quality of your proposal, and the likelihood of your completing the proposed work by the end of the summer.
